Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Knowing Otherwise collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the website www.knowingotherwisepodcast.com (the "Site").
Who we are
Knowing Otherwise is an independent podcast produced by León Castellanos-Jankiewicz, based in the Netherlands. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the "data controller" for the personal data described here.
For any privacy question or request, contact us at knowingotherwisepodcast@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
Information you give us. If you sign up to be notified about the show, we collect the email address you provide. We use it solely to send you occasional updates about Knowing Otherwise — new episodes and news related to the show. We rely on your consent as the legal basis for this, which you give by submitting the form.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our website provider automatically collects limited technical and usage data — such as pages viewed, approximate location, browser type, and referring links — to help us understand how the Site is used and keep it running securely. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Site.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for any purpose other than those described above.
How your data is stored and shared
The Site is hosted by Squarespace, which processes technical and usage data on our behalf. Email addresses collected through the sign-up form are stored and managed using Squarespace and Substack. These providers act as our processors and maintain their own privacy and security practices; some may store data outside the European Economic Area under appropriate safeguards.
We share personal data only with these service providers, and only as needed to operate the Site and the mailing list — or where we are legally required to do so.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Automatically collected usage data is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to:
access the personal data we hold about you;
ask us to correct or delete it;
object to or restrict how we use it;
withdraw your consent at any time; and
lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can exercise any of these rights by contacting us atknowingotherwisepodcast@gmail.com. We will respond as soon as possible.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
